2XKO is Better on Thursdays: 2XKO Weekend Warmup

We’re starting a weekly update for news across 2XKO. Updates on seasons, resets, and locals inside.

TLDR: We’re starting a new Thursday program called the 2XKO Weekend Warmup. Starting on Jan 29, we’re changing store and weekly mission resets to Thursdays. Expect to see more updates, insights, contests, and more on Thursdays each week. 2026 is moving from five seasons to three (still five champs, though). Catch up with everything going on across 2XKO and beyond in weekly blog posts like this, also on Thursdays.

The 2XKO Weekend Warmup is simple: we want to make Thursdays just a little more exciting to play 2XKO. We’ll start with resetting weekly missions and the store a little closer to the weekend, but over time we plan to keep making Thursdays just better overall. Expect this to be a long-term thing, so more to come in the future.

We’re also going to do a blog post every week with the latest news and updates, and this is the first one. This Week In Destiny is the inspo, for those that know. It might get spicy sometimes.

Let’s get into the fun stuff. What’s going on in 2XKO?

Highlights

2XKO is coming to console

I’m cheating already and skipping to next week. We’re releasing 2XKO on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on January 20 or 21, depending on your timezone. Thanks for your patience, console players and TOs—looking forward to bringing you into the fold.

Wishlist now:

Caitlyn’s gameplay trailer is live

The Sheriff of Piltover made her gameplay debut earlier this week, merging long range precision with deadly movement and mix. She’ll be unlockable as Season 1 kicks off.

Frosty Faustings signups closing

Frosty Faustings XVIII, 2XKO’s first Competitive Series Major event, closes signups on January 18. 2XKO devs will be on site, so if you can make the trip out, we’d love to see you.

Game Updates

We won’t have these each Warmup, but here’s a heads up on a couple of changes you’ll see hitting with Season 1. Full patch notes for 1.1.1 hit next week.

2026 will now have three seasons

We previously said that 2XKO was going to have five seasons in 2026, but as we learned more about how y’all play through Early Access, it makes more sense to do fewer resets through the year for both Ranked and the Battle Pass. So we’re moving to three seasons in 2026, now mostly disconnected from champion releases and the competitive calendar. This won’t change too much overall aside from Ranked resets and new Battle Pass timings.

We’re still planning on releasing five champions in 2026, starting with Caitlyn, but the second champion of the year will now also fall within Season 1. More info on how to unlock champs via the store and Recruitment Events can be found in the Progression & Personalization article. The 2026 Competitive Series calendar is also unchanged.

Content drops and resets are moving to Thursdays

Starting January 29, new skin drops, store resets, and weekly mission resets are moving to Thursdays (previously Tuesdays). If you’re busy, we want there to be one day a week where you’re able to carve out time to play, and we’re picking Thursday—so you hopefully don’t have to choose between playing online, and attending your weekend locals. Speaking of…

Find a 2XKO Local

Closing Thoughts

Behind the scenes, the Weekend Warmup is part of a series of programs we’re working on in 2026 that are focused on making the most of your time with 2XKO.

Fighting games are special because of the quality time you spend with other players, and the connections that come from that. We want to make sure that even if you’re not playing 2XKO every day, you have the chance to experience the best of the scene.

So, our goal is to make Thursdays the best day to play online, with more to do and more people to fight with. If you and your friends can only hop on a couple times a week, we hope the Weekend Warmup will help make that time more fun and worthwhile.

To that end, expect us to invest in things like supporting smaller communities (on and offline); celebrating mastery of 2X (particularly duos!); leveling up local events; supporting creators of all types; and creating a thriving community-driven competitive scene for 2X. If you are passionate about any of these, please let us know online or in person.
