Progression & Personalization in 2XKO
From the very beginning of 2XKO’s development, our team’s goal has been to create a game that’s fun, fair, and free to everyone. To support that, we offer tons of ways to level up and earn in-game items, as well as purchasable premium content at different price points, to ensure players who want to customize are able to.
As a team, we want to make a great game that everyone can play for free, and ensure any additional content is worthy of your time and money.
This article will cover most of 2XKO’s progression and personalization systems and break down how they work. These will likely be adjusted and tweaked over time as we learn more about what’s working and what isn’t.
Progression
Progression systems cover all the ways you can grow and evolve in 2XKO, whether that’s earning XP, unlocking new content, or earning rewards over time. The goal is to keep the game feeling fresh and fun, giving you new things to work toward beyond just your next win. In this section, we’ll highlight each of 2XKO’s progression systems and how they work.
In-Game Currencies
There are three types of in-game currency in 2XKO: Credits, Champion Tokens, and KO Points (KP).
Credits are a free, earnable currency you get from completing missions, tutorials, and Combo Trials, as well as playing games in Casual and Ranked lobbies.
Champion Tokens are earned via completing tutorials, or can be purchased through Starter Editions. They can be exchanged for champions.
KO Points (KP) are a premium currency that can only be bought with real money. Some items can be purchased with either Credits or exchanged for KO Points, so you can unlock certain cosmetics just by playing the game.
Credits can be exchanged for many types of content, including chromas, stages, champions, avatar items, and Champion Mastery items. You can hold up to 12,000 Credits at once, and they are designed to be spent—we want you to feel free to use them often and not have to choose between picking up cosmetics and hoarding them for the next champion (see Champion Recruitment Events below).
Battle Pass

Starting with Season 0, each season will include a Battle Pass, which contains rewards you can unlock by completing missions and collecting Battle Pass XP. Levels can also be purchased for KO Points.
The Battle Pass will have two tracks: a free track, which lets you earn a limited selection of the rewards that are available for the season, and a purchasable track (Premium), which gives you access to all Battle Pass rewards.
The first Premium Battle Pass reward will be a new stage (this may change in future seasons).
There are three Premium Battle Pass bundles available in the store:
- Standard bundle: access to Premium Battle Pass track
- Deluxe bundle: access to Premium Battle Pass track, 10 Battle Pass levels
- Ultra bundle: access to Premium Battle Pass track, 10 Battle Pass levels, a new champion and chromas, plus the entire launch skin set
- The specific content included in the Battle Pass Ultra bundle may change from season to season, but this is the Season 0 Ultra bundle offering.
- Once the season is over, the launch skin will join the pool of cosmetics available for sale in the rotating store.
Reaching the end of the Battle Pass grants access to Epilogue levels with additional rewards. These bonus levels require more XP than the rest of the pass and cannot be purchased for KO Points.
Missions
You can earn Credits and Battle Pass XP by playing matches and completing in-game missions. There are three missions that refresh daily, and three missions that refresh weekly and accumulate over the course of a season. This means players who join a season late can quickly catch up. Check your progress at any time from the Progression tab.
In Season 0, some weekly missions repeat. Starting in Season 1 in 2026, all the weekly missions for the season (30) will be unique.
New players will also have First Steps missions which teach some of the basics of 2XKO, and also grant rewards, including a second free Champion Token.
Champions

In 2026, each season of 2XKO will launch with a new champion. Season 0’s champion, Warwick, can be purchased with Credits or KO Points, purchased as part of the Ultra Battle Pass bundle, or exchanged for a Champion Token.
Starting in Season 1 in 2026, for the first three weeks of the season, new champions can be unlocked in the store for 1,000 KO Points, one Champion Token, by purchasing the Ultra Battle Pass bundle, or by completing a Champion Recruitment Event.
Champion Recruitment Events
During a Champion Recruitment event, earn Battle Pass XP alongside the Battle Pass to progress the Champion Recruitment Event and unlock the new champion for free. This event is separate from the Battle Pass, so you don’t need to own the Premium Battle Pass to pick up the new champion. Note that while Season 0 features a new champion, it does not have a Champion Recruitment Event.
After three weeks have passed, the new champion can be unlocked with 10,000 Credits, 1,000 KO Points, or one Champion Token. (Champion Tokens are granted from completing First Steps missions and from purchasing Starter Edition bundles.)
If you want to get a sense of how a new champion plays before you unlock them, new champions are available to everyone in Training and Offline mode, even if they haven’t been purchased.
Champion Mastery
The Champion Mastery system is designed to reward dedication to playing your favorite champions, and to encourage trying out new ones. Complete challenges for each champion to gain Champion Mastery levels. Champion Mastery levels give access to rewards that can be unlocked with Credits.
Champion Mastery challenges will reset after each season ends, but Mastery levels and any unlocked rewards will roll over. Rewards unlocked by completing Champion Mastery challenges may vary, but here are some examples of the type of content that could be included:
Avatar clothing
Player titles
Stickers
Animated stickers
Player cards
Champion taunts
Mastery chroma
Rank

The Ranked lobby is the place to go for competitive games. When you join a Ranked lobby for the first time, you’ll play five placement matches against other players before earning a rank.
Wins in the Ranked lobby grant Ranked Points (RP). Earn 100 RP to climb to the next tier. At the end of each season, you’ll earn rewards based on your highest Ranked placement.
Here’s the Ranked hierarchy, listed in order from lowest to highest rank:
Aspirant
Iron
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Platinum
Emerald
Diamond
Master
Grandmaster
Challenger
Each rank is divided into three tiers. For example, Iron includes Iron I (lowest tier), Iron II (middle tier), and Iron III (highest tier). Grandmaster has no tiers. To move onto the Challenger leaderboard, players must reach 500 RP while in Grandmaster, and be one of the 100 people with the most points past 500 RP.
You can duo with friends of any rank. Keep in mind this might match you against more challenging opponents, so be prepared. RP gains will also be slightly reduced, so a higher-ranked duo partner can’t boost their teammate.
Read more about Ranked in our player support article.
Personalization

While 2XKO’s progression systems are all about what you can do and achieve in the game, personalization content is about how you look and express yourself along the way. This includes stuff like skins, emotes, and other visual extras that let you customize your appearance. Unlocking these items is completely optional, but we want anything that we release to be worth your investment.
Cosmetics
Here’s a quick rundown of the different types of cosmetics you’ll find in 2XKO:
Chromas
Chromas are alternate palettes for base champions and skins. Champion and skin unlocks, skin unlocks in the Battle Pass, and skin set purchases include one additional chroma. Chromas can be unlocked individually for Credits, purchased for KO Points, and some are available on the Battle Pass. Some chromas for a skin can be purchased together for KO Points at a discount. More details on how to unlock specific chromas can be found in the in-game Champions tab.
Skin Sets
Skin sets include skins, avatar accessories, player cards, and more. Skins change the appearance of champions with new designs. Some also include unique visual or audio effects. Skin sets come in a variety of tiers, each with different features and price points.
Skin sets can be unlocked individually while their corresponding Megabundle is in the store, or from the rotating store that refreshes weekly.
Stages
Stages customize your match’s background environment with themes inspired by the different regions of Runeterra.
Stickers & Emotes
Use stickers and emotes to express yourself in lobbies. Equip different stickers and emotes from the Expressions section of the Collection tab, then open the stickers and emote wheel in lobby to use them.
Avatar accessories
Collect outfits, hairstyles, and other items to customize your player avatar. You can view and equip different avatar accessories from the Avatar Studio.
Taunts
Champions have several taunts, accessible before the round starts or during the game.
Finishers
Finishers adjust the KO screen in various ways (via new animations, camera movements, background adjustments, sound, and text styles). Finishers can be equipped across your entire collection or per champion. They can also appear in the rotating store.
Player Cards and Titles
Player cards and titles change up the header on your player profile. Equip them in the Cards and Titles section of the Collection tab.
Megabundles
Bundles contain multiple types of cosmetics at a discounted price. Each season will come with a variety of themed Megabundles featuring premium cosmetics like high-tier skins and finishers. You’ll be able to purchase skin sets within most Megabundles individually, or grab the full bundle to unlock bonus content. The Megabundle skin sets and finishers (if included in any Megabundle) may join the pool of skin sets in the rotating store after the Megabundle sale ends, and full Megabundles may be available for purchase again in the future.
Editions
Editions are premium cosmetic content purchased with real money. The Arcane-inspired Starter Editions are currently available until the end of 2026, and they include skins, Champion Tokens, and KO Points to help you get started.
